Getting started

Rensai is a free, open-source desktop manga reader. Read from your own collection or add series from supported websites through Rensai Sources.

Installation

See the download page for current release availability and development instructions. Public Rensai installers are not available yet. Some labels in development builds still use the Houdoku name.

First steps

  1. Open Add Series and select the filesystem source.
  2. Choose Select Directory and select a series folder. To import several series, enable Multi-series mode and choose the folder containing them.
  3. Review the series details, then select Add series.
  4. Open the series in Library and select a chapter to start reading.

See Local files and archives for supported archive formats and folder layouts.

Make it yours

Open Settings to configure the application.

  • General and Library let you choose a theme, adjust the library display and refresh options, and back up your data.
  • Reader offers single-page, double-page, and long-strip layouts, image sizing, reading direction, and keybinds. See Customize.
  • Trackers connect your reading progress to AniList, MyAnimeList, or MangaUpdates. See Trackers.
  • Integrations includes Discord presence settings for sharing your reading status.

Read offline

After adding a website series to your library, open its page and select Options, then Download. You can also download individual chapters.

The reader uses downloaded chapters when they are available. Open Downloads to manage saved chapters and the download queue. See Offline downloads.
